Invasivie Cardiology JobsThere are many specialized areas of medicine. One such specialty is cardiology, which deals with diseases of the heart. If you break it down even further, there is a specialty called invasive cardiology. This is when invasive procedures are used to treat problems with the heart, and is an even smaller branch of cardiology. The term invasive is used, because the body is literally "invaded" as treatment. Instruments are inserted into the skin, to treat the diseased heart. The most common treatment in invasive cardiology jobs is cardiac catheterization. This is when a tiny catheter is inserted, usually in the groin area, and moved through the blood vessel, slowly toward the heart, with special x-ray machines to guide the process. The most common use for cardiac catheterization is treatment for an arterial blockage at or near the heart. These arteries are the ones which supply the heart with life-sustaining blood and oxygen. A heart attack occurs when one of these arteries becomes blocked, and angina, which is the chest pain associated with blocked arteries which happens when the artery is not quite blocked enough to cause an actual heart attack. The treatment includes dye being put through the catheter which is able to be followed by x-ray to determine if there is, in fact, a blockage which needs to be repaired. Most blockages are able to be fixed right away, once they are identified. Angioplasty is the process used in invasive cardiology jobs to fix a blocked artery. A tiny, deflated balloon is placed in the catheter and moved to where there is a blockage. Once there, the tiny balloon is then inflated, which usually clears the artery so that blood and oxygen are flowing once again. This procedure is often done in an emergency when someone is suspected of having a heart attack. Or, if someone has severe angina which will not go away, this procedure is done to clear up any arterial blockage before an actual heart attack occurs. Invasive cardiology jobs involve risks to the patient, which are always explained before any procedures are done in the operating room. These procedures are done only when the surgeon feels they could save the life of the patient, or prevent a heart attack, or other heart condition. Jobs in the field of invasive cardiology are available all over the world. This is a specialty that is constantly evolving, and, is needed on a regular basis. This is especially true since most Americans are not going to change their unhealthy lifestyles, and will continue to have heart trouble which will require treatment.
